During World War II, Nockolds served in the RAF and undertook official commissions as a war artist. Notably, he produced an iconic portrayal of the Battle of Britain—a monumental canvas commemorating the heroic defense of London against Luftwaffe attacks. This artwork exemplifies his ability to distill complex historical events into emotionally resonant visual narratives, capturing the intensity and drama of aerial combat with remarkable precision.
Beyond Motoring: Expanding Horizons:

He experimented with drypoint etching—producing stunning prints using a simple compass and copper sheet—collaborated with Mullard on scientific illustrations—capturing the beauty of technological advancements—and created evocative sporting prints for Frost & Reed—celebrating athletic achievement. His commissions included portraits of gun dogs, reflecting his appreciation for rural life and craftsmanship.
