A Life in Color and Form
The story of Werner Glich begins in Gorzów Wielkopolski, Poland, where he was born in 1927. His early years in this region set the stage for a life defined by the visual language of the brush and the precision of the draftsperson. He moved through a changing Europe, eventually finding his footing in the artistic circles of Germany. By the time he reached Munich, his presence in the art world was firmly established.
His technical skill as a draftsperson provided a foundation for his later pursuits as a painter. This dual identity allowed him to approach the canvas with both a structured understanding of form and a fluid, expressive sensibility. He did not merely observe the world; he reconstructed it through line and pigment.
The Munich Years and Professional Standing
The mid-century period marked a significant shift in his professional trajectory. In 1957, Glich achieved a milestone that solidified his status within the German art community when he became a member of the Münchener Secession. This affiliation placed him among a lineage of artists dedicated to the evolution of modern expression.
His career is characterized by several key elements:
- His dual expertise as both a painter and a draftsperson.
- His long-standing membership in the prestigious Münchener Secession.
- His geographic connection to Gorzów Wielkopolski and Munich.
Legacy and Finality
Glich’s work remains tied to the specific era of mid-century German modernism. He lived through a period of immense cultural reconstruction, translating the complexities of his time into visual media. His life reached its conclusion in Munich in 2003.
He left behind a body of work that reflects the discipline of a trained draftsman and the vision of a dedicated painter. His contribution to the Münchener Secession remains a notable chapter in his personal history.
