A Life of Many Hands Born in Rosice nad Labem, Czech Republic, in 1938, Milan Dušek lived a life defined by a remarkable variety of labors. Before the world knew him through his creative output, he moved through many different roles that shaped his perspective on the physical world. He worked as a locksmith, a member of the Border Guard, and a worker in a foundry, polishing castings with precision. His path also led him to the quietude
of forestry, where he hauled wood with horses, and later to roles as a caretaker and a maintenance man. These varied experiences provided a grounded, tactile foundation for his later pursuits. His creative spirit emerged more fully in his thirties, particularly after circumstances prevented him from continuing certain official duties.
