Maiko Takeda’s artistic journey began in Tokyo, Japan, where she was born in 1986. This passion propelled her to relocate to London at eighteen, immersing herself in the vibrant creative landscape of British art and design. Her formative years instilled within her a deep appreciation for Japanese aesthetics – particularly jujutsu and zen – which would later inform her artistic sensibilities. Recognizing the profound connection between headwear and self-expression, Takeda pursued further studies specializing in Millinery at Royal College of Art in 2013. This focused training solidified her dedication to crafting sculptural pieces that explore themes of light, texture, and the human form. She honed her skills through rigorous academic pursuits, earning a BA Honours degree in Jewellery Design from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in 2009. Takeda’s artistic vision centres on transforming commonplace materials—often incorporating bioluminescent elements—into extraordinary artworks. Her approach isn't simply about constructing objects; it’s about creating immersive experiences for both the wearer and their surroundings.
