The Artistic Practice of Renée Van Halm
Renée Van Halm is a Canadian contemporary visual artist born in Haarlemmermeer, the Netherlands. Her practice is characterized by a long-standing interest in the history of painting, specifically through the production of hybrid objects that blur the boundaries between painting, sculpture, and architecture. Her work explores how we represent and inhabit architecture, utilizing genres such as still life, landscape, decor, abstraction, and pattern. Van Halm’s imagery draws from a wide range of sources, including early Renaissance paintings, contemporary real-estate ads, interior design publications, and her own photographs and collages.
