Georges-Eugène Causard lived his life within the boundaries of Paris, France. Born in 1853, he moved through the late nineteenth century, a period marked by shifting tastes in decorative arts. His presence in the city coincided with the transition from the ornate flourishes of previous decades toward more structured forms. He passed away in 1902.

It features mustard-gold painted wood and brass, shaped with the asymmetrical curves characteristic of the Rococo style. The clock face is made of porcelain, paired with hands of gilded metal.

In this particular piece, the colors remain muted, avoiding the heavy gold typical of the era to favor a more subdued elegance. The traces of his work remain in collections such as the Hill-Stead Museum in Farmington. Through these objects, one can observe the technical choices made during the eighteenth century's transitional style. His contribution is found in the physical weight and the painted details of these historical items.
