A Life of Art and Science

Jean-François Léonor Mérimée was a French painter, chemist, and writer born in Broglie, France. His academic journey began at the Collège de Caen before he entered the Académie royale de peinture in 1778, studying under Gabriel-François Doyen and François-Élie Vincent.
