A Life Forged in the East End Born in Stepney, within the vibrant and storied landscape of London’s East End, Ivor Weiss was a child of the Romanian-Jewish immigrant experience. The son of successful furriers, his early years were steeped in the cultural textures of a community shaped by tradition and movement. While his formal studies at the Northampton Road Polytechnic were abruptly interrupted by the onset of the Second World War, t
he conflict itself became an unexpected crucible for his artistic development. Serving with the British Eighth Army, Weiss found himself stationed in North Africa and Malta, where the necessity of finding beauty amidst upheaval led him to study at the Malta School of Art in Valetta.
