Her creative output spanned multiple media, with scholars believing she painted a total of fifteen paintings. Her works often featured biblical and mythological imagery, as well as themes of women and nature.
Some of her known paintings include:
- A self-portrait located in Berkeley Castle
- A portrait of James II of England
- Venus and Adonis
- Satyr Playing the Pipe
- Judith and Holofernes
- Venus attired by the Graces
Life and Literary Works
Killigrew's life was cut short when she died from smallpox in 1685 at the age of 25. While her poems were circulated in manuscript during her lifetime, a collection of thirty-three poems was published posthumously in 1686. Her writing included various genres such as religious, pastoral, and philosophical poems, as well as epigrams.
Her family connections were significant; her father, Dr. Henry Killigrew, was a chaplain to Charles I and later the Master of the Savoy. Her mother, Judith Killigrew, was a musician and lady-in-waiting to the Queen. Through these connections, Anne was part of the milieu of the Stuart Court.
