A Life of Art and Music
Born in Stavanger, Norway, August Jacobsen was a painter whose work spanned landscapes and portraits. His artistic journey was marked by a diverse range of styles, including nyromantikk, naturalism, and impressionism. Before dedicating himself to painting, Jacobsen was a musician, playing the flute in the Stavanger city orchestra and later the cello. His early life was shaped by his family's photography business, which he took over at the age of 19 after studying in Germany.

During his time in Paris, he encountered Norwegian artists Thorvald Erichsen and Oluf Wold-Torne, who served as inspirations for his work. His artistic development also included time spent at Zahrtmanns skole in Copenhagen.
