The Life and Art of Hakob Kojoyan
Hakob Kojoyan was an Armenian artist who worked primarily in the genres of painting and applied art. Born into a family of goldsmiths, he learned the craft in his father's workshop and later studied jewelry skills at Prusov's jewelry studio in Moscow. His artistic education continued in Germany, where he studied at the Hashbury Studio and the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. During his time in Munich, he created a "Self-portrait" characterized by its drawing, generalized reproduction of forms, and virtuoso coloring.
Kojoyan's career included significant contributions to Armenian national identity. He assisted architect Alexander Tamanian in creating the coat of arms for the First Republic of Armenia. His work also involved participating in the excavations of Ani, where he copied frescoes from the 13th-century Church of the Savior. In addition to painting, he created agitation-propagandistic posters and caricatures for "Haykavrosta." Later in life, he served as a professor at the Institute of Fine Arts in Yerevan.
