Five Plums

The Drawing Year Alumni, 2013. Michelle Cioccoloni lived for many years in Rome, Italy and studied at the Royal Drawing School in 2012/13. She specializes in monochrome drawings of interiors, objects and ancient artefacts, using a technique that has been influenced by the study of the Old Masters. Her drawings in ink, which is applied with a fine metal-nib pen, play on the juxtaposition between illusionistic space and flat areas of tone. She has been Artist in Residence in Salzburg, Austria and Dumfries House in Scotland. In 2014 Michelle won the Richard Ford Award and travelled to Madrid, where she spent three months making in-depth studies of paintings in the Prado Museum. Michelle currently works from a studio in West Sussex. She now works for the School part-time, and her role keeps her in contact with all our Drawing Year alumni, sharing their successes through the alumni blog and newsletter, and coordinating the many exhibitions, events and opportunities in which the School involves and supports its alumni.
