Born into a Jewish family, his early life was marked by a nascent artistic sensibility that quickly diverged from expectations. Initially enrolled in medical studies in Vienna at his parents’ behest, Melnikov found himself increasingly drawn
to the visual arts, spending evenings immersed in the world of sculpture at the Vienna Art Academy.
