Born in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1871, Emil Krause developed a way of seeing the world that focused on the quiet, lived-in corners of existence. By the time of his death in 1945 in Farum, Krause had established himself as a painter who understood the weight of a shadow and the warmth of a well-placed light. He did not seek to overwhelm, but rather to observe. His paintings, such as those held in the National Library of Wales, remain as records of a specific time and place, preserved through his careful application of oil on canvas.
