Life and Artistic Journey
Born in the 10th arrondissement of Paris, France, Colette Beleys was a French painter who spent approximately sixty years working in her studio in the Montparnasse district on rue Huyghens. Her early training included drawing lessons and studies in lithography, followed by coursework at the École des arts appliqués and the École des beaux-arts de Paris. During her career, she was part of a vibrant artistic circle in Paris, maintaining friendships with various painters and interacting with significant art dealers and critics.
Her life was marked by significant travels across Europe, including journeys to Italy, Spain, Belgium, Holland, Austria, England, Yugoslavia, Croatia, Turkey, Greece, Russia, and Bulgaria. In 1935, she married the painter Jean Lasne. Following his disappearance during the war in 1940, she paused her painting for several years before returning to her work, often using sketches and notes gathered during her travels through France and Europe to compose her canvases.
