Ludwig Minnigerode entered the world on April 12, 1847, in Stryj, Galizien. His talent for portraiture reached a significant moment in 1874 when he painted Elizabeth, Empress of Austria (1837-98). This oil on canvas work depicts the Empress in a formal manner, capturing her likeness during a period of significant historical weight. As his career progressed, he continued to explore different themes and subjects. In 1884, he created a work titled Italienerin.
