Rupert Norman Shephard emerged from the vibrant artistic landscape of London as a painter whose work served as a profound witness to the shifting tides of the twentieth century. Born in Islington, the son of an engineer and a charity worker, his early environment was steeped in the quiet creativity of Quaker life.
