      Born in Niigata, Japan, Otake Kokkan emerged as a significant figure within the landscape of Japanese painting during a period of profound transformation.       This rebellious spirit continued to drive Kokkan as he helped establish new organizations, such as the Hakkakai, to provide alternative platforms for artists.
