Shi Lin, also known by his courtesy name Tianrui, was a prominent figure of the Ming dynasty. Born in Yuyao County, Zhejiang, he was a man of vast learning and diverse talents, excelling in poetry, calligraphy, and painting. His artistic mastery was particularly evident in his depictions of ink bamboo, a subject he rendered with exceptional skill. Beyond his creative pursuits, Shi Lin was a distinguished official who rose through the imperial ranks, serving in roles such as the Right Vice Censor-in-Chief and eventually attaining the high position of Right Censor of the Censorate.

He passed away while in office and was honored with posthumous titles, including Taibao of the Crown Prince. His multifaceted legacy as a scholar, official, and artist remains preserved through his various historical records and artistic endeavors.
