This artwork is a captivating Baroque depiction of biblical drama—the aftermath of Saint John the Baptist’s execution—featuring an executioner holding aloft John's severed head alongside Salome, illuminated by theatrical light and embodying influences from Caravaggio and Van Dyck. Dobson skillfully blends realism with emotive storytelling.
A vibrant oil painting by Frank Dobson depicting a lively scene with kites and airplanes against a backdrop of trees and a field – 'The Balloon Apron' captures wartime leisure and artistic innovation.
