Hermann Ernst Freund: Life and Legacy Early Life and Training Hermann Ernst Freund (1786-1840) was a German-born Danish sculptor who achieved recognition for his pioneering work in Nordic mythology and, most notably, the ambitious *Ragnarok Frieze*.
