A Sculptor Rooted in Myth and Emotion Joachim Dunkel (1925–2002) was a master of form whose artistic journey served as a profound meditation on the complexities of the human condition. Born in Berlin during the turbulent years following World and II, Dunkel’s early life was shaped by the reconstruction of a fractured city. His formal training began at the prestigious Kunsthochschule Weißensee between 1946 and 1949, a period that proved
foundational to his aesthetic identity. During these formative years, he studied under two vastly different mentors: the illustrator Eva Schwimmer and the sculptor Heiliger.
