Born in Humenné, Slovakia, Ján Vasilko is a painter and visual artist who has established himself on both domestic and international stages. His formal training began at the School of Applied Arts in Košice, where he studied graphics, followed by studies at the Faculty of Arts at the Technical University in Košice. His academic journey included scholarship stays at VŠVU in Bratislava and AVU in Prague. Currently, he lives and works in Košice, where he also serves as an assistant professor at the Faculty of Arts.
Vasilko's work is characterized by a preference for simple, stylized forms and a reductive language of clean planes and elementary shapes. His practice operates at the intersection of abstraction and figurativity, often creating an imaginary architecture of structures such as towers and villas. His iconography frequently incorporates industrial and mechanical elements, including combines, plows, saws, and excavators.
