A Life in Color and Light

Max Kahn was a German painter specializing in portraiture and genre scenes. Born in Mannheim, Germany, his artistic journey began with studies at the Städthe Kunstinstitut in Frankfurt am Main under Angilbert Göbel. He continued his formal training in Munich, studying at the Academy under Nikolaus Gysis and Ludwig von Löfftz. Seeking further development, Kahn moved to Paris, where he worked at the Académie Julian under Tony Robert-Fleury and remained a resident until 1914.

His work was characterized by a preference for the collected light effects of interiors and a strong emphasis on local color. His paintings were exhibited in various international locations, including Antwerp, Berlin, London, Munich, and Paris. Throughout his career, he frequently participated in the Paris Salon of the Société des Artistes Français, as well as exhibitions in Versailles and Barcelona.
