In his left hand, he holds a cello, while his right hand is occupied with a pinch of snuff. The arrangement of the scene is completed by a table upon which his right arm rests, holding a bow, music, and a snuff-box.

His watercolors often focused on the intersection of nature and human industry, such as a scene featuring a covered wagon positioned near a stone mill.
