This upbringing profoundly shaped Tayler’s artistic trajectory, propelling him from Eton College and Harrow School towards the pursuit of art rather than the clergy. Despite familial reservations regarding his chosen path, Tayler resolutely pursued painting, honing his skills at Sass's School and subsequently gaining admittance to the Royal Academy in 1830.
