Upon his return, he unexpectedly found himself appointed Chairperson of the Ceramics Department at Chouinard, a position previously held by his mentor, Vivika Heino. He led the department from 1963 to 1971, fostering a creative environment for aspiring ceramic artists.

Transition to Full-Time Studio Practice

A significant shift occurred in 1971 when Chouinard was renamed the California Institute of the Arts and relocated to Valencia. The ceramics department was unfortunately discontinued as part of this transition.
