Ildephonse Stocquart was a Belgian painter and printmaker born in Geraardsbergen. He received his artistic training at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, where he was a scholarship recipient from 1837 to 1839. During his formative years, he studied under several artists, including Julien Ducorron, Eugène De Block, and Henri Van der Poorten. His professional career was marked by frequent participation in various exhibitions, including thirty-seven Belgian triennial salons between 1840 and 1883, as well as exhibitions in Paris and the Netherlands. The works of Stocquart are characterized by his focus on landscapes, animalier subjects, and genre scenes. He often drew inspiration from the environs of Grammont and the Dendre region, his birthplace.
