Biografía del artista
Michał Stonawski: A Master of Illusionist Horror
michał stonawski, born in Krakow, Poland in 1991, is a multifaceted artist whose work transcends conventional boundaries—a writer, publicist, and game designer who has carved out a distinctive niche within the realm of Slavic horror fiction. His journey began in 2010 with “wyrok,” a chilling short story that debuted in ‘horyzonty wyobraźni 2010,’ establishing him as a voice committed to exploring unsettling narratives and psychological depths. Since then, he has amassed an impressive portfolio of nearly sixty short stories disseminated across online platforms, magazines, and anthologies—including “dziedzictwo manitou” (published by replika in 2013), “obliczcza grozy” (published by replika in 2014), and “żertwa: antologia słowiańskiego horroru” (published by ix in 2021)—demonstrating a consistent dedication to crafting narratives that resonate with primal fears. His literary accomplishments have garnered international recognition, translated into German and Czech, reflecting the universality of his thematic concerns. Beyond writing, stonawski’s involvement extends to collaborative projects within the pop culture landscape—engagements with sites like enklawanetwork.pl, efantastyka, qfant, interia, and dzikabanda underscore his passion for engaging audiences with imaginative storytelling. Notably, he spearheaded the “nagroda polskiej literatury im. stefana grabińskiego” award between 2013-2016 and served as editor-in-chief of polskagroza.pl—roles that solidified his position as a champion of Polish literature and horror culture. From 2012 to 2018, stonawski actively participated in organizing cultural events such as krakon, falkon, dni fantastyki, and krakowski festiwal na falach—events designed to foster dialogue and appreciation for fantastical genres within the Krakow community. Alongside krzysztof biliński, he hosted “misterium grozy,” a podcast delving into pop culture horror themes, showcasing his ability to synthesize artistic vision with popular media consumption. His editorial responsibilities continued with lubiegroze.pl from 2016-2019—further demonstrating his commitment to disseminating horror narratives and promoting cultural engagement. Currently, stonawski is a fervent advocate for preserving Poland’s heritage and cultural vitality as a member of the galara boudicca team—a collective dedicated to safeguarding historical landmarks along the vistula river. He collaborated on “dziecięce marzenia i koszmary” by h.p. lovecraft and co-created “jakie czasy taki diabeł”—projects that highlight his fascination with exploring dark mythology and confronting existential anxieties. His artistic endeavors aim to provoke contemplation and challenge perceptions of reality, mirroring the spirit of pioneering painters like Parrhasius of Ephesus and Zeuxis of Heraclea who famously engaged in a contest to determine which artist could convincingly imitate visual experience.- Galería Liptovská Petra Michala Bohúňa: Stonawski’s paintings explore themes of illusionism and psychological depth, mirroring the techniques employed by masters like Parrhasius and Zeuxis.
