- Johann Baptist II Lampi est né le 31 décembre 1751 à Romeno, en Tyrol (Italie/Autriche moderne).
- Il venait d'une famille d'artistes ; son père, Matteo (Mattia) Lampi, était un peintre décorateur connu pour ses fresques.
- Lampi a initialement étudié l'art sous la tutelle de son père à Vérone et a ensuite poursuivi sa formation à Salzbourg.
- En 1773, il s’est installé à Trévise où il a perfectionné ses compétences en portraitiste travaillant sur des toiles et des miniatures.
