Early Life and Artistic Foundations Born in 1973 in the serene village of Kothanalloor, Kerala, India, Gigi Scaria’s artistic journey began steeped in a distinctly rural environment. This formative period would later become a crucial undercurrent within his complex explorations of urbanization and displacement. He pursued formal training at the College of Fine Arts in Thiruvananthapuram, earning his B.F.A. in painting in 1995. However,
it was his subsequent move to New Delhi for an M.F.A. at Jamia Millia Islamia – completed in 1998 – that truly ignited the core themes that would define his oeuvre.
