nurtured through formal study at Edinburgh College of Art from 1932 to 1936. There, amongst his peers – Wilhelmina Barns-Graham and Margaret Mellis – Gear began to lay the foundations for a style that would ultimately blend nature’s vibrancy with the dynamism of modernism.
