Herbig was an expressionist artist who worked with oil paintings and was particularly noted for his use of expressionistic, luminous pastel colors. His art has been exhibited in various institutions, including the Neue Nationalgalerie, the Brücke-Museum Berlin, and the Lübecker Museum.
