StatistikaThe Harbor
A Moment Captured in Color
Georges Braque’s The Harbor, painted in 1906, presents a lively marina scene characterized by its vibrant and unmodulated colors. The composition is anchored by a large red and brown vessel with a tall mast positioned in the foreground, which serves as a central element for the viewer's eye. Floating upon the tranquil water are several boats, including two small vessels docked closely together in the middle of the scene, while larger boats are visible further in the background towards the left and right sides of the painting.
The atmosphere of the work suggests a period of transition, as the sky is scattered with streaks of yellow, blue, and orange, appearing to capture the essence of either a sunrise or a sunset. Scattered throughout the image are several people, adding a sense of activity to the harbor environment. The painting utilizes loose brushwork and intense colors to depict the boats, ships, and elements of the landscape, including a tree.
