Vroege Jaren en Opleiding
- Hercules Pieterszoon Seghers werd geboren in Haarlem als de zoon van een doekhandelaar uit de Doopsyn, die oorspronkelijk afkomstig was uit Vlaanderen.
- In 1596 verhuisde zijn gezin naar Amsterdam.
- Hij trad in dienst als leerling bij Gillis van Coninxloo, een vooraanstaand Vlaams landschapsschilder, maar deze opleiding werd voortijdig beëindigd door de dood van Coninxloo in 1606. Seghers en zijn vader verwerfden na het overlijden van de kunstenaar verschillende werken van Coninxloo.
- Na de dood van zijn vader in 1612 keerde hij terug naar Haarlem, waar hij zich aansloot bij het Haarlemse Sint-Lucasgilde.
