      Anders Monsen Askevold entered the world in 1834 in Askvoll, Sunnfjord, Norway. His ability to translate the national character of Norway onto canvas brought him significant honors, including medals won in both Vienna and Philadelphia, as well as a gold medal awarded in London in 1884.

      Beyond landscapes, he also undertook religious commissions, such as painting altarpieces for churches like the Askvoll Church in 1859. He settled in Düsseldorf in 1878, where he remained until his death in 1900.
