His formative years were steeped in the intellectual traditions of China, fostering an understanding of symbolism and historical context that profoundly informs his distinctive visual language—a characteristic he carries through to his prolific output spanning painting, sculpture, and installation. Following graduation from Beijing Capital University’s Department of Fine Arts, Wei embarked on a transformative journey to Australia in 1989, driven by a desire for artistic freedom amidst evolving political landscapes. This relocation cemented his connection with the Australian art scene and propelled him into collaborations with fellow artists who champion intercultural dialogue.- Early Influences: Wei’s artistic vision draws heavily from Zen Buddhism and Daoist cosmology—concepts emphasizing harmony, balance, and contemplation of nature—influencing his meticulous attention to detail and his exploration of meditative states within his artworks.
