This Hispano-Flemish panel was produced by Miguel Jiménez in the last quarter of the 15th century, and formed part of a five-panel altarpiece in the Church of San Pablo in Zaragoza. Four of the panels depict saints seated on thrones, two on the left and two on the right: Saint Peter of Verona (martyr); Saint Bartholomew (an apostle); Saint Stephen (the first martyr); and Saint Dominic de Guzmán. The saint is seated on a bench raised up on a polygonal platform, with the back covered in embroidered cloths. The panel features carved molding, flowers, roses (like the ones in the mandorla, or oval halo, in the Virgin of the Rosary panel), and animals, as well as some segments of marquetry with geometric motifs and others in the Gothic style. The representation of saints on ceremonial seats could be characteristic of this period in Aragon. He is represented with his attributes: a machete wounding his head and a dagger through his chest, from being attacked in a forest.
