Born in Ulchin, South Korea, her artistic lineage was one of profound creative strength, as she was the eldest daughter of the renowned abstractionist Yoo Young-kuk. This connection to a legacy of modern Korean art provided a fertile ground for her own explorations, yet Yoo Lizzy carved out a distinct path, moving away from pure abstraction toward a craft that celebrated the tactile beauty of the natural world and the rhythmic cycles of life.
Her artistic journey was shaped by rigorous academic training, beginning with a B.F.A. in Applied Art from Seoul National University in 1968, followed by an M.F.A. from the Tyler School of Art, Temple University in Philadelphia, USA, in 1976.
