A Tapestry of Color and Motion
The artistic journey of Juarez Machado is one defined by a profound dialogue between the vibrant soul of Brazil and the sophisticated atmosphere of Europe. Born in Joinville, Santa Catarina, Brazil, Machado’s early creative impulses were nurtured at the School of Art in Curitiba, within the state of Paraná. It was here that he began to cultivate a versatile mastery over various mediums, expanding his vision far beyond the canvas. His practice became a rich exploration of illustration, theatre, sculpture, engraving, and television, allowing him to approach the concept of visual storytelling from a multitude of perspectives.
As his career progressed, Machado’s geographic movements mirrored his artistic expansion. After settling in Rio de Janeiro in 1966, he continued to intensify his creative activities before eventually making Paris his home in 1986. This transition to France introduced new layers of complexity to his work, as his urban scenes began to reflect the nuanced rhythms of Parisian life while maintaining a deep connection to his Brazilian roots. His ability to blend realism with a powerful sense of color and movement has earned him international recognition, with solo exhibitions spanning major cultural hubs such as Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paris, and New York.
