Randi Chaplin Matushevitz (born in Rochester, New York in 1965) is an American artist recognized for her distinctive approach to portraiture and mixed media sculpture—characterized by ‘charcoal, ink, pastel, spray-paint, and acrylic; graffiti-like mark-making, gestural strokes, collage-like stencils’—whose “moody, urban-baroque vision evoke a dark fairy tale world.” Contemporary Art Curator Magazine noted, "Her recent portraits investigate uncertainty, and reflect the reactive mania or calm surrounding layers of wear and tear on the soul..." Matushevitz's artistic journey began unexpectedly when she took a drawing class thinking “it would be easy,” discovering instead a profound connection between physical process and inner experience. This serendipitous encounter profoundly shaped her creative trajectory.- Education: Matushevitz earned her Master of Fine Arts at the University of Miami, Coral Gables, FL and her Bachelor of the Arts at the California State University, Northridge.
