charles louis müller, a renowned french painter, was born in paris on december 22, 1815. he was the pupil of léon cogniet and baron gros, among others, at the prestigious école des beaux-arts.
notable works and achievements
müller's first exhibited painting, christmas morning, dates back to 1837. from 1850 to 1853, he directed the manufactory of gobelin tapestries. in 1864, he became a member of the académie des beaux-arts of the institut de france, succeeding jean-hippolyte flandrin.
