Crisp October

The painting Crisp October by Ben Levene is a stunning representation of the cityscape, showcasing the beauty and bustling nature of urban life. Created in 1991, this oil on canvas piece measures 41 x 50 cm and is currently located at the Guildhall Art Gallery in London, United Kingdom.

A City's Contrasts

The scene features a large body of water, possibly a river or lake, surrounded by buildings and trees. The presence of an oil rig in the distance adds an industrial element to the painting, highlighting the city's economic activities. This contrast between natural and man-made elements creates a captivating image that draws the viewer's attention. Key Elements of the painting include:

• The city skyline, with its mix of old and new buildings
• The large body of water, which adds a sense of calm to the scene
• The trees in the foreground and background, which provide a natural contrast to the urban landscape
• The oil rig, which represents the city's industrial activities

Artistic Style and Inspiration

Ben Levene's style is characterized by his use of bold colors and brushstrokes, which give his paintings a sense of energy and movement. Crisp October is no exception, with its vibrant colors and dynamic composition. The painting's inspiration can be seen in the works of other artists, such as Julian Perry, who also explored urban landscapes in their paintings.
