The botanical eye
Clara Peters, born in the Republic of Ireland in 1991, looks closely at the small, often overlooked details of the natural world. Her work focuses on the quiet presence of specific flora, capturing the textures and forms of plants with a balanced use of color. There is a steady focus in her paintings, where the subject remains the central point of attention.
In her compositions, certain species take center stage:
- The Common tutsan of the family Hypericaceae (Hypericum androsoemum)
- The Burnet or Scotch Rose of the family Rosaceae (Rosa spinosissima)
- The Whortleberry of the family Vacciniaceae (Vaccinium myrtillus)
A study in form and color
The paintings avoid heavy drama, opting instead for a balanced intensity. Each piece rests on the physical reality of the plant life depicted. By observing the way light sits upon a leaf or how a berry holds its shape, Peters creates works that are grounded in the botanical truth of her subjects. The focus remains on the structural integrity of the Hypericaceae and Rosaceae specimens she chooses to document.
