Her artistic journey was shaped by rigorous academic training, beginning with a B.F.A. in Applied Art from Seoul National University in 1968, followed by an M.F.A. from the Tyler School of Art, Temple University in Philadelphia, USA, in 1976. In the late 1980s, alongside her sister Yoo Cha-ya, she established Goeun Jewelry, a workshop where her designs—often inspired by the delicate motifs of plants and birds—could breathe.
