As her family navigated the perilous shifts of World War II, moving from Hungary to Sweden and eventually toward the United States, Dénes experienced a profound fragmentation of identity. of home, but of language. Moving through Hungarian, Swedish, and finally English, she found herself in a state of linguistic exile, a sensation that would later drive her toward the visual arts.
