Early Life & Artistic Beginnings Park Soo-young, known professionally as Joy, was born in Jeju Island, South Korea on September 3, 1996—a location steeped in Korean folklore and renowned for its volcanic landscapes. Growing up amidst the vibrant traditions of Jeju instilled in her a deep appreciation for storytelling and visual expression from a young age. Her fascination with music began early, fueled by performances of Trot music – a
genre characterized by its energetic rhythms and emotive vocals – particularly Cherry Filter’s “Flying Duck,” which captivated audiences during a grade school festival.
