As the son of a banker, Simon Veit, and Brendel, a descendant of Moses Mendelssohn, his upbringing moved through the intellectual
hubs of Jena, Paris, and Cologne. This nomadic youth, influenced by the presence of Friedrich Schlegel, eventually led him to find his true artistic calling in Rome.
