The Life and Travels of Lucas van Valckenborch

Born in Leuven, Habsburg Netherlands, Lucas van Valckenborch was a member of a prominent Flemish family of artists. He entered the painters' guild of Mechelen in 1560, where he learned the technique of watercolour. By 1575, he had returned to Antwerp, eventually serving as court painter to Archduke Matthias. In 1593, he joined his brother in Frankfurt am Main, where he remained until his death.
