Red Ring
I work with a simple form, a hand rolled curve of clay, the most basic natural material. It is the geometry of a curve that allows construction. I build with hundreds or thousands of these forms creating formal abstract shapes evocative of natural forms in nature. The sculptures are constructed by a process of slowly and continually adding curves one by one into the continual negative space created by the weave of the curves. As every snowflake is unique and every blade of grass is unique the curves are similar but no two are exactly the same. The sculpture is a meditation on time and temporality. The sculpture exists in a particular time and place and then is disassembled and reassembled in another specific time , place , size and form.
